What is Reiki Healing?

Reiki is a Japanese complementary therapy for stress reduction and relaxation based on universal life-force energy which also promotes healing.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words –REIKI

REI – meaning “God’s Wisdom” or the “Higher Power” and –

KI – which is the same as “Qi/Chi” in Chinese, “Prana” in Sanskrit and “Mana” in Hawaiian; these are all words to describe “life force energy” – so, REIKI is actually “Spiritually guided life force energy.”

Reiki is an energy healing modality whereby practitioners “channel” increased life energy or ‘Ki’ through hands-on healing practices to assist in the healing of another. This may seem strange at first the idea that something called “life force energy” even exists and that someone can affect this to help someone to heal physically, emotionally and even spiritually.

You see we are alive because we have a life force. This is energy flowing through us, nourishing our organs and all the cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. If one’s “life force energy” is low or blocked and stagnant, then we are more likely to feel stressed out and may even become run down and illness may eventuate. When we are vibrating on a high level and our energy is unrestricted we are more in harmony with life and our capacity for being happy and healthy is abound.

Life force flows throughout the body and is strongest within pathways/channels called meridians or nadis, which correspond to each organ and function and this forms the basis of acupuncture, working on the meridian lines using dry needling. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues along that line in the physical body.

There are also 7 major energy centers known as chakras, which again correspond to particular areas of the body, linked to emotional/spiritual aspects of life.

I will write about chakras in another post, however for example here, the base or root chakra is located in the pelvis connected to the coccyx and represents issues of survival, fears of letting go, scarcity, poor boundaries and so on; and can manifest as emotional dysfunction, stress, anxiousness, restlessness and as common health issues such as joint pain, lower backache, weight issues, poor immune system function and more.

In which case if that area is blocked with stagnant emotional energy, there may be certain things that need to be addressed and cleared from the energetic body in order to feel better about oneself and prevent illness manifesting later down the track.

Ki has also been shown to radiate well over 15cm out and around the body and this is the auric field – fascinatingly your aura can be seen as all different colours through Biofeedback-Imaging.

This living energy field is responsive to thoughts and feelings and becomes disrupted when experience negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves and diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the physical body.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached.

Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery – Many have reported miraculous results.

Here are some benefits of Reiki:

– Increase of self-esteem
– Greater sense of purpose
– Release of stagnant energy and re-balancing
– Clarity and a sense of deep heart connection
– Sense of peace and relaxation
– Reduced stress levels, easing of depression and insomnia
– Relief from pain – Self-healing
– Helps with a whole list of physical ailments

The Reiki system of natural healing was developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui as a hands-on method, which is experienced as a powerful yet unobtrusive flow of healing energy and is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.

Reiki is not necessarily a transference of energy from one person to another. The Reiki practitioner’s energies are never depleted.

The practitioner simply acts as a conduit, tapping into the flow of unlimited universal supply and through intention, directing this energy down through his or her body and into the energy field of the client to be utilized where it is needed – accelerating one’s ability to heal one’s self..

It works with that innate ‘knowing’ part of ourselves that has created what we are experiencing as “the problem” and it is both the client and the practitioner that is participating in the healing from within oneself, each clearing it from our shared psyche.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion and is not dependent on belief – it will work whether you believe in it or not.

A treatment feels wonderful and you’ll usually experience the warmth of the energy emanating from the practitioner’s hands, in varying degrees.

Traditionally, Reiki is passed on from Master to student, however it is an amazingly simple technique to learn. This ability is passed on during an “attunement” given by the Master which enhances the students ability to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy” to improve the health and wellbeing of all involved.

Many moons ago I found a wonderful Reiki Master – Martine Salerno, who has been practicing for well over 20 years.

Martine is committed and inspired to make Reiki available to all who wish to explore the essence of healing, all who seek greater meaning and purpose to life, all who are willing to embark on a journey of self discovery and personal growth.

I highly recommend Martine, and you can find out more here: Reiki Online
